Kiwi Doctors speak out against controversial Therapeutic Products Bill

NZDSOS, Summarised by Centrist

The controversial Therapeutic Products Bill was passed under urgency, despite strong objections from many New Zealanders.

The bill will regulate natural health products alongside pharmaceuticals and gene therapies. While some argue for increased scrutiny of pharmaceuticals, lumping natural products together with synthetic chemicals doesn’t make sense.

“What exactly was the urgency? Was it the multitude of excess deaths New Zealand has seen in the last two years?”

Concerns arise about potential prescription requirements and difficulty accessing natural health products.

The bill has faced significant opposition, with petitions circulating to develop legislation specific to natural health products.

Dr Guy Hatchard’s article reveals that the International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities (ICMRA), which includes NZ’s Medsafe, seeks to limit natural herbs while approving synthetic copies, raising concerns about public access and the government’s motives.

“Who exactly is the New Zealand government serving? Not the people of New Zealand if 97% of the submissions argued against this bill in its current form.”

Citizens are urged to voice their concerns to candidates and protect their freedoms.
