Kiri Allan’s controversial RNZ podcast with Anika Moa released after being cancelled

Summarised by Centrist

An RNZ podcast episode featuring former minister Kiri Allan and host Anika Moa, which the public broadcaster refused to air due to concerns over impartiality, has surfaced following an Official Information Act request.

The episode reveals Allan’s views including her belief that Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, as a white male, had lived a life of privilege.

According to Allan, for Luxon, “it was always probably just an option on the table to become Prime Minister because ‘Why not?’”

Moa responded, “Any white, pale, male, stale” could be in Luxon’s position simply by virtue of his identity.

In the taxpayer funded show, Allan claims that the system wasn’t designed for her or other wāhine Māori with the pair discussing how Māori women are treated unfairly by the media and society.

Allan said that all parties including National had approached her to run prior to entering politics. Moa expressed her surprise stating ‘Even National? Add a bit of brown to white town!”

Moa also claimed the current coalition government wanted to “annihilate a certain people”. “Why are they doing this?” she asked Allan.

Allan replied, “I don’t think that many people see that.” To which Moa responded “I do, because I’m on the outside.”
