Judge, celebrity doctor apologise for disrupting Winston Peters’ event

Summarised by Centrist

A district court judge and her reality-TV star doctor partner have apologised after crashing a New Zealand First Christmas event at Auckland’s Northern Club.

Judge Ema Aitken reportedly interrupted Winston Peters’ speech, shouting accusations of lying, while Dr David Galler allegedly blocked Peters’ exit, criticising the coalition government’s performance.

Both later issued apologies for their behaviour, with Galler admitting his remarks were “ill-judged.”

Attorney-General Judith Collins called Galler’s behaviour “appalling,” stating it was “completely unacceptable” and confirming she had raised the matter with the Chief Justice.

Chief District Court Judge Heemi Taumaunu also apologised to New Zealand First on behalf of the judiciary, deeming Aitken’s actions “rude” and “inappropriate.”

Peters himself has not confirmed whether he will take further action, saying, “We don’t rush to judgement here.”
