NZ’s education system faces alarming decline

The NCEA qualification system is a major cause of the drop in education standards, particularly in mathematics and sciences.

New Zealand’s country ranking is now below average in mathematics and science.

Postmodernism and social justice ideologies in education, shifting focus from evidence-based science and critical thinking, pose a threat to the international reputation of New Zealand’s education system.

The rise of left-wing ideologies and post-modern ideas, along with Critical Social Justice theory and Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity policies, are given priority by policy makers over teaching essential skills and knowledge. 

“The decline has now been exacerbated by moves to centre the school curriculum on the Treaty of Waitangi, and universities declaring themselves Te Tiriti-led and prioritising the inclusion of matauranga Māori in degree courses.”

Urgent action is needed to restore focus on rigorous teaching and established knowledge without ideological interference.
