Winston Peters, leader of New Zealand First, criticised the COVID inquiry, attacking its commissioners and the media. 

Peters disagreed with continuing the inquiry with the same commissioners, citing inappropriate terms of reference and biased individuals. 

Labour leader Chris Hipkins accused Peters of pandering to “conspiracy theorists”, and tried to defend the inquiry’s independence.

“Your mainstream media and RNZ accused us of going down a rabbit hole, the kind of arrogant behaviour which does not belong in a first-world country that understands science and more importantly is one of the world’s great longest-lasting democracies,” Peters said.
