New Zealand signs UN Declaration targeting disinformation

Signatories need to “take active steps to address misinformation and disinformation targeted at women, LGBTIQ+ persons, persons with disabilities and Indigenous Peoples”. It also says signatories must “refrain” from restricting freedom of expression under the guise of countering disinformation. 

Canada has been particularly active in attempting to coordinate an international response to what it calls “foreign state-sponsored disinformation” and “evolving foreign threats to democracy”.
