In an interview with The Platform, researcher Holyhekatuiteka dismantled the mainstream media narrative that Green MP Benjamin Doyle’s use of the term “bussy” referred to a consenting adult.
Instead, he pointed to the government-funded Burnett Foundation’s own definition—posted throughout Doyle’s time there—explicitly stating “‘bussy’ (boy-*ussy)” is about a boy, not a man.
The post is unambiguous.
Holyhekatuiteka says defenders are ignoring the context, sanitising the term, and misleading the public.

According to the Way Back Machine, evidence suggests Doyle worked at the Burnett Foundation from (at least) mid-January of 2024. The “bussy” definition appears to have been posted in November 2023.
“This is what media should have done if they were doing their job,” said Holyhekatuiteka.
This revelation directly contradicts claims by the likes of The Daily Blog’s Martyn “Bomber” Bradbury and NZ Herald’s David Fisher that “bussy” is a term relating to anything other than a “boy”.
Fisher neutralises the term “bussy” by redefining it as “male anus.” Both him and Bradbury acknowledge the original meaning but try to reframe it as playful queer slang and shouldn’t be taken literally or seriously in this context.
Together, they sidestep its original meaning—and the fact that Doyle used it while working for the organisation that publicly defined it.

Holyhekatuiteka said he sent the full dossier—including over 50 now-deleted Instagram posts—to multiple media outlets months ago. “No interest,” he said, “until Winston Peters lit the match.”
Despite claiming Doyle’s account was “private,” screenshots shared by Holyhekatuiteka showed it was public—with a follow button visible. He also noted that Green Party leader Chlöe Swarbrick still follows the account, which Plunket confirmed.
