Pollster David Farrar identifies a decline in wellbeing under Labour’s leadership, based on 2023 General Social Survey data.

Key changes include fewer people with enough income to live on (down to 60.9%), a rise in those cutting back on fruit and vegetables to save money (up to 47.7%), and poorer health (up to 19.2%).

Additionally, fewer people feel safe at home or out at night, and trust in others has dropped. Despite Labour’s focus on wellbeing, these indicators show a worsening quality of life for many New Zealanders.
