In his recent state of the nation address, the ACT Party’s associate minister of justice, David Seymour, touched on many topics, including the introduction of the Treaty Principles. 

Seymour’s fundamental question regarding the Treaty of Waitangi: whether it establishes a partnership between races or guarantees the same rights and duties for all. He asserted that the latter view promotes equality and individual value.

Applicants pass away awaiting miscarriage of justice investigation 

RNZ reports that four individuals in New Zealand have died while waiting for the Criminal Cases Review Commission (Te Kāhui) to investigate potential miscarriages of justice. 

The commission, established in 2020, has received just over 420 applications, with nearly 160 reviewed and completed, 30 under investigation, and more than 200 in the initial assessment phase.

Prince beats King as number one on list of declined baby names by the government for 2023

In 2023, the once-dominant baby name “King” in New Zealand was replaced by “Prince” as the most commonly declined name, marking the first time since 2009 that King was dethroned. 

The Department of Internal Affairs rejected five instances of the name “Prince,” along with variations like “Prynce” and “Pryncè.”

Study reveals challenges of parenting adolescents’ screen use
